| About How To Commission A Fine Art Replica |
Replica - Interesting facts about copying and forgery - Pastiche
The exact reproduction of a work by the artist himself (replica) or another. In contrast to reproduction, a copy resembles the original in format, material and technique. Copies are particularly numerous in the sculpture of Greek antiquity; the knowledge of most sculptures of the classical period in Greece is due to Roman copies.
The term "forgery" must be distinguished. However, this is understood to mean a replica that is passed off as an original against one's better judgment. The latter is of particular legal relevance. For example, it is not a criminal offense to reproduce antiques and add artificial signs of age but to sell such replicas as originals fraudulently. Reputable manufacturers of reproductions, therefore, try to prevent such fraud, for example, by affixing a corresponding factory mark or similar in a non-disturbing place, expediently of course in such a way that its removal is not possible or at least leaves traces.
Pastiche is a painting or other work of fine art that imitates the style of a known master.
